plus Educators’ Lab in Wien-Margareten, Vienna’s 5th district
Since 2013, we have been transforming vacant business premises into pop-up science centers. Over the course of a few months, they offer low-threshold access and a playful approach to science and technology for everybody.
With the Knowledge°room we want to grant access to education even for socially disadvantaged people and thus contribute to educational justice. At the same time, Knowledge°rooms are places of encounter between all sorts of different people – regardless of social, cultural or economical background or knowledge.
In the Knowledge°room, children, adolescents and adults are free to engage hands-on in scientific topics, to explore and, above all: to allow free play to their curiosity. Materials for inquiry-based learning, hands-on exhibits, and a tinkering corner inspire new discoveries, experimentation and exploration. Various “themes of the day” provide for a diverse program. Visitors can also bring their own topics and ideas and implement them with the support of our multilingual team of facilitators.
In 2014, we were awarded with the SozialMarie, the prize for social innovation, for our successful pilot project of the Knowledge°room.
